What is Active Recovery

Are you the type of person that finds rest days difficult? Me too! I get restless and feel phenomenal when I am able to move my body.

However, it is not wise to workout seven days a week. There is scientific evidence that suggests taking one to two rest days a week. Without a rest day, your joints, muscles, and other important structures don’t have time to properly heal after exercise and you will be more prone to injury. Continued maximum effort will eventually lead to injury and mental exhaustion.

This is where active recovery comes in for the win! 🙌 Active recovery encourages you to move your body at low intensity. It can be beneficial in promoting blood flow to the muscles, removing toxin buildup/ lactic acid and reduces soreness after a workout. Some notable examples of active recovery include walking, swimming, jogging, yoga, or cycling. Keep in mind these exercises can be intense, so the key is to stay away from vigorous exercise, keep the heart rate down and keep it low intensity.

Passive recovery is sitting on the coach and watching Netflix on your rest days. This is ok and I have enjoyed these too! All that matters is that you are getting one to two rest days (active or passive) weekly. 😉

I offer a four month program which includes one on one personal training with myself. Strength training is an imperative part of my program, and my clients never repeat the same workout twice. Variety is key for progression! If you are feeling stuck in your fitness routine and are seeking education and individualized training, let me help you progress! Feel free to contact me. I’d be happy to connect! 💛 - Morgan
